Algebra and simultaneous Equations

Post by rbs »

Hi,

Could someone let me know if my DS needs to cover simultaneous equations for the 11+ Essex exam?

We are working from the Peter Robson books. How much of Peter Robson 3 (algebra) needs to be covered.

Thanks

No, I have never seen any.

The algebra level seems to be:

3x +2 = 11 what is x

or the formula is a = 5 (b+2) what is a if b is 10

There was a tricky one once with x as a fraction but I can't remember it at the moment.

(DS has only just covered simultaneous equations at school in year 9)

I have seen questions that are based around this level of maths, but using real items such as food and drink.

I buy 3 drinks, 2 sandwiches and an icelolly and pay X amount.
You buy 5 drinks, etc.

How much does a drink cost?
