While it's true that Bond books don't include all the Essex type questions and include many which won't feature in the actual exam, I would say they are still worth using. As long as you do use some 21-type materials closer to the exam, that is. They help with general mental agility. The problem is when DC only use Bond and nothing else for their VR prep. Because they are in standard format rather than multiple choice, DC have to become more skilled at working out the answers from scratch. This makes the move to multiple choice papers refreshingly easy. Obviously, there are certain tricks to be used when dealing with the multiple choice papers, but these can be learned quickly and the advantage of having started with Bond is that DC are well versed in the substantive problem solving. A lot depends on when you begin preparing for the exam. If you are short on time, you may be better off to skip Bond VR altogether. Otherwise, they can be useful.

Good luck!

I prefer Walsh 9-10 as starters for VR. I would work through each type first. You can make up examples - it's good fun (well if you're that way inclined)!

I would always use multiple choice as a child needs to know how to use the answer sheet to 'cheat'.

Bond are great for English and maths though.
