Hi I went last year, they had a magician on for about an hour and a quarter, which was more suitable to primary school children, they were a bit like the chuckle brothers, okay if you like that sort of thing. there seemed to be lots of groaning coming from the parents, the lucky ones had brought alcohol. There was very little time to mix with the other parents, apart from this evening everything else has been great, the induction day was fun, my daughter got given a book to write down new friends phone numbers, looking at maps to work out who lives near you, this was especially good for the girls who were the only one from their school, the girls had plently of time to chat and make friends in their new forms.

They had two guys - Del and - wonder if they did your one? It was a mix of entertainment and magic and many (if not most) of the children seemed to love it.
The children were sprayed with water and had a chance to ridicule their parents on stage - what more can you ask for, when you're in primary school (which all the children were) ?

I noticed many of the parents trying hard to suppress their laughing when the humour was a little more "adult" or double-entendre.

Though they can be a little banal at times and a bit too slapstick, (not unlike Del and Jo) I have a bit of a softspot for the Chuckle Brothers

As a family we went to the fun night last night. The entertainment was fun - both my children loved it, and I have to confess to having had a laugh too! I was disappointed though about the new intake girls not being encouraged to mix. Luckily for my daughter she knows two other girls going - not that well, but well enough to 'tag' along and meet some other new girls. I noticed that some girls were not so lucky and did not mix. It must be very hard if you are on your own and see a group mixing already - not that easy to walk up to them and introduce yourself. I'm glad you posted about the induction day - it has really put my mind at rest about the girls getting to mix/know each other.
Maybe I was under the wrong impression about the Fun Night - I thought it was due to be a chance for the girls to mix and get to know each other - but I didn't think that it was particularly easy when you had an hours worth of entertainment, and then no obvious way for the girls to mix. I have two daughters who are of a similar size, yet one is 10 (11 in two weeks time) and one is 8, so people kept presuming that they were both going to CCHS. Maybe name tags would have helped? Just for the new intake girls only so at least they could easily spot each other. Also, maybe some team games etc - to help break the ice and get them talking?
Saying that though my daughter enjoyed herself and seems very relaxed about going to CCHS. She is looking forward to meeting new friends, and I think the notebooks (fingers crossed they do that this year too) on the induction day sound a great idea. Thanks for posting.

Also, maybe some team games etc - to help break the ice and get them talking?

I seem to remember DD going to another PTA event that involved party games, possibly in the September, just after she started?

Hi Everyone,
My daughter started in year 7 this year and loves the school. I help with the PTA sometimes but had sickness bug on Friday so couldn't make it. I admit that it is hard, for both children and and their parents, when the child is the only one from their primary school and doesn't know anyone, as was the case with us. Fortunately, as a lurker on this forum, another parent contacted me and several other parents prior to Family Fun Night, bless her, and arranged for us all to meet up for an evening of Quazar so that the girls could get to know eachother. Consequently, when we went into the hall on the Family Fun Night, there were one or two faces we all knew.
Anyway, there is another evening for the new year 7 girls a few weeks into the term which the PTA also run. By this time they are more familiar with the school and their peers. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed this too. (Parents don't stay to this one!)
Best of luck and congratulations to all your DDs - they will love the school I am sure.
