CCHS house system

Post by piemom »

Hi, does anyone know, at Chelmsford County High, is your house the same as your form? In other words, are all the girls in one form members of the same house? Thanks!

I was wondering about that too. There is something called the House Decorate Classroom which is when you pick a theme, then decorate your classroom to that theme it seems. So it must mean that I suppose. Or not? :?

Yes. There are 4 houses... Stuart, Curie, Grey-Thompson and Hepburn ( S,C,G and H). Your DD will be in say, 7C... This is her form of thirty girls. This is the class she is in for non-practical subjects like English, Maths, History, German. For practical subjects like science, PE, tech etc. 6 girls from each of the 4 forms make up five classes of 24 girls. So your DD might be in 7C and class 5 or 7G and class 2. The classes for practical subjects are established randomly... there is no setting/streaming.

Hope this helps!

Good to know house names and clarification on the meaning of Form. Our DD first child going to CCHS, we are quite excited as well. However, we are a bit worried she would be travelling on her own from Brentwood.

I've been told there are many girls who travel from here. so, hopefully she would be alright.

Is your dd travelling from Shenfield station or Brentwood? DD3 is starting Y7 and will be getting the train from Shenfield. DD1 currently makes this journey, along with loads of other CCHS girls. Don't worry, lots of the girls travel from Brentwood area.

The PE & Uniform suppliers are quite far away aren't they? . Better order it next week when they come to school I think. DS's school uniform suppliers are just nearby in town. Ah well.... a visit to Tunbridge Wells if the PE kit gets lost or something will do no harm I suppose. Will there be spare ones in the school to purchase if something gets lost?

The school uniform shop is at school twice a week run by the parents' association. They also have a school uniform fitting week in July when you can get the whole lot with a 10% discount. Most people buy 1 skirt, 1 blazer, 4 blouses, 2 jumpers and a lab coat.

The PE kit comes from Canvey Island. We popped down there, tried on the lot and left it with them to be embroidered (the cheaper option). It was then delivered to school to be collected on the parent/pupil meet a member of staff slot.

It was all very straight forward.

Trainers don't have to be pure white, most girls have a white trainer with a coloured brand symbol on the side. That's fine. Any PE bag will do. It just needs to fit in a locker.
