Journey to SHSG

Post by Araucana girl »

Can anyone whose dd already takes the train and bus to SHSG let me know how they find it. I am thinking of putting it on the CAF as a third choice but have yet to try the journey (and see what mark dd gets in the exams in 2 weeks time :? ). We missed all the open days as well as thought (or dh did) that it was too far but reconsidering. We would be coming from Billericay.

Thanks

Our two (DD yr 8, DS1 yr 12) travel from Chalkwell on the C2C line, but until the middle of July, DD was at Cecil Jones College and travelled by bus through the interchange at Southend Victoria, accompanied by me on Wednesdays as I need to be in Southend then. At about eight in the morning the interchange bus stops are full of mainly SHSG girls (plus CJC and Futures pupils going the same general direction), with SHSB boys and the odd Westcliff / Tommy More pupil waiting for buses going in the opposite direction. Much like the gaggles of Westcliff pupils wending their way up from Chalkwell station at the same time, the general impression is that the activity is a companionable one.

Unfortunately there is no longer a bus going straight down Southchurch Road without going down to the travel centre and back first, but Arriva route 1 stops opposite SHSG. Coming back to the station in the afternoon, I think all the buses which stop outside the school go along Southchurch Rd and stop at Warrior Square - so you can get anything and get off the bus there and (crossing the road carefully at the lights, children 8) ) walk up to Southend Victoria without doing the travel centre loop.

On the train itself there should be lots of company, with boys travelling to SHSB getting off / on at Prittlewell.

SBC leisure coaches were looking at running a bus route from Brentwood/Billericay to SHSG. http://www.sbcleisure.com/?page_id=57" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Yes I know I am on their email list if they ever do it but as far as I know it never made it off the ground :(

Thank you Toadmum that was really helpful. I might have to go and try the journey :D

Hi, I understand from a friend of mine that around 7 girls started there this year in year 7 - all travelling from Billericay. I also know girls in other years who do the same journey and I understand that they all look out for each other quite well. It may also be one of our options so no doubt there will be plenty of discussion once results are in :?
