There has been a number of questions about waiting list and likelihood of getting a place across several threads. Blitz had posted an excellent summary of 2013 entry which can be found at viewtopic.php?f=15&t=35894 or pasted below..

If you are not allocated your first choice school you are automatically put on the waiting list. You can phone up, usually about 7 working days after offer day to check your position. Essex schools offer waiting list places straight away, whereas Southend schools wait until 31st March to offer waiting list places (so a few late applications may jump ahead and your waiting list position probably will go down).

Waiting lists are a real roller coaster and very unpredictable from one year to the next. Appeals come into play in June, so again you can go down the waiting list as well as up.

Last year CCHS offered 15 places off the waiting list, KEGS- 4, CRGS - 16, ColCHS- 6, WHSB/G- 30+ at each, SHSB- 25+ at each.

Last year at least 4 offers (CCHS, KEGS, ColCHS and SHSB) were made in September after children had already started at their second choice schools.

These are last year's movements:
(All the cut-offs refer to the cut off point on offer day last year).

Last year a mistake was made with an i/c boy scoring in excess of 350 not being allocated his first choice school - KEGS.
This mistake was rectified by Essex CC.

This year at least 2 mistakes have already been made with allocations. Luckily parents posting scores have alerted others to the cut off marks and mistakes have been rectified by councils.

However, this means:
SHSB is 1 over PAN for o/c boys
WHSG is 1 over PAN for o/c girls

This means that if a boy rejects a place a SHSB, his place will not be allocated off the waiting list. Two boys will need to reject places for the first waiting list place to be offered.

Is this in regard to the OC allocation of places only as the error was not in respect of the IC places? Thanks

Yes, both mistakes were with o/c children.

Many thanks for confirming was just in regard to the OC list. An obvious answer to many but wanted to clarify. :D
