Just had an email from Kegs concerning increase in intake to 150 boys from September 2015. Too late for us but will help this year!

Assuming that means an extra class per intake, where are they going to put them? DS2 and I looked round a couple of years ago and they all looked a bit squished as it was. Have they expanded the buildings since then?

Yes they mentioned another form of 30. I'm not sure about any increase in space but they did have building work recently to the art block.

Also now a "tweet" on KEGS website: "Very pleased to announce an extra 30 Year 7 places from this September - now 120 places reserved for our priority area, 30 places outside."

I wonder if the KEGS head already knew this was coming and that's why he was urging people with slightly lower scores to still apply

Two increases in recent years. Only 112 a few years ago.

Its probably financially driven as at CRGS. The changes in funding for sixth formers mean the schools cannot afford to be as sixth form top heavy as they were before.

I'm sure the senior management team & governors will have been planning this for some time so the head would certainly have known at the parents' information evenings what was in the offing.

The top heaviness of the 6th form at CRGS was partly a problem due to the number of subjects they take and that historically the teaching hours per subject are above average. Is this the same at KEGS?

Am I right in thinking this means the children that will be starting yr 7 in sept this year have the extra places or that it's from sept this year (as in 11+ candidates taking exam this sept) will have the places? Sorry if you think it's obvious but I've read it two ways!! Thank you xx
