Does anybody know if you have to gain a 5a in the SATS to get the level 6 paper marked? Our school have told us this is the case (I realise we only get a score of 5 but the people marking it know the range of each a, b or c grade). Many thanks.

No you don't have to get a level 5a to get the level 6 marked ... officially there is no such thing. Children get a level 3, 4 or 5.

The paper will be marked whatever, but a 6 will only be awarded if the child has achieved a level 5 in the 3-5 test.

There were 2 children that this happened to a couple of years ago.

In order to get a level 6, you need to do the level 6 paper which has harder and fewer questions than the level 5. My son is sitting Level 6 Maths and Level 6 in grammar.
