CRGS Class Sizes 2015 Entry

Post by Bells01 »

Hi,

I note that there will be 120 boys starting this September, as oppose to 96 in previous years. Does anyone know if this is now 4 classes of 30 (was 4 classes of 24 I believe) or are there going to be 5 classes of 24?

Thank you,

Bells01 - there are currently only 3 forms in Year 7 at CRGS, they have roughly 32 boys in each. I presume they will just have 4 forms in September which will have 30 boys in each.

Thank you fausto, I always thought it was 4 forms of 24 and was wondering if class sizes were increasing in September but it sounds like they might actually be very slightly smaller :)

Is this the case when being taught in Maths, English etc (as oppose to just forms for registration) - there are just 3 sets each with 32 children? I had thought a few years ago that someone told me that their son was in set 4 for Maths (which is how I calculated the 4 classes of 24).

The current year 7 forms are taught all subjects together, there is no setting. The forms have to be split in some subjects, such as technology where there is not enough equipment. When they do this they just split the class in half alphabetically by surname.

In the past it was 3 forms of 32 in year 7 and 8. Then in year 9 there would be an additional 4 pupils join via the 13 plus and the classes would be reorganised into 4 forms of 25. I would therefore assume they are going to have 4 forms of 30. My question at present is what will happen to the 13 plus entry?
Maths sets happen further up the school, so then there is 4 sets.

I guess the 13+ issue will be for the new Head to decide in due course - they could abandon it or double it and push class sizes up to 32 in year 9.

Or admit 5 and have 5 classes of 25!

As you say it will be wait and see with the new HT. DS is not looking forward to it, but only has 1 year left so any changes are unlikely to affect him much.

They are obviously sticking with the 4 places in Year 9 at the moment as a friend's son is joining in September in this way.

Oh yes, I would expect a year 9 intake next year as well, as that year group will be on the old PAN. Its whether it will continue/change once the increased PAN to 120 group reach year 9?
