It's not an essex grammar - I don't want to say, to protect my daughter's privacy.

OK - I wish your daughter well in her chosen school.
More info re Billericay School
Just thought I'd add a few more thoughts about Billericay School.
Firstly, you have to bare in mind that Billericay school is comprehensive and, as with most comprehensives, you get your fair share of children with a "don't want to be here" attitude.
The results at both A level and GCSE seem to be roughly in line with the national average. Generally they are not quite as good as the results at Mayflower, the other comp in Billericay. However, I have noticed a trend for Billericay students to do more of what I would call academic subjects, etc, at university. This will of course, vary from year to year but there seems to be a lot of students at Mayflower going on to study art courses (not that I have anything against art but you know what I mean).
The uptake of science, by girls in particular, is very poor at both schools (Mayflower is science specialist and Billericay is maths and computing) and this is something I find difficult to get my head round because I am sure that they have students who are more than capable of studying sciences past GCSE.
Foreign languages after GCSE are also quite rare for both sexes but this is the case in many schools, grammars included.
Personally, if money was no object, I would go with the independent but there are many worse comps than Billericay (and many better ones too).
As I said previously, friends have children there and they are doing really well. Maybe it depends on "who they get in with".
Good luck with your decision.

My daughter will sit the 11 plus this week for woodford. She is attending a private school which she can continue after year 6.She also must pass her school's entrance exam. She loves her school and we are only trying for Woodford in the hope to stop paying the school fees.If she is accepted a place at the grammar school and her school she may want to stay where she is.Hence one reason for refusing a grammar school place.
