Is this only for private schools???

It may be what they call casual vacancies- ie if a child leaves, then they would test for that vacancy. Only a guess

Not all areas have the 12+, Bucks does.

It is used for entry into Year 8 ...

In other areas it is the school that sets the exam for entry into year 8.... either from a NFER type format or straight from the curriculum.

Not sure what the schools in Essex do!
It may help to look at the school website or the county website.

I had a quick look at Westcliff & KEGS.... they both set there own test for admittance after Year 7.
