Yes I think you are right about the ranking being a snapshot of how they have done on a particular day. If my daughter finds herself to be about middle of the class at CCHS then I would be very pleased with that!
My daughter (the rank 127) came from a state primary, too! But she has been fine with the school work, & isn't phased that she is now more in the middle of the class, ability-wise, than at the top. I know of another child (also state primary) who was very near the bottom, in ranking terms, of the children accepted, but is also now about average within the class. I think it goes to show that the ranking doesn't mean much, in real terms - it's just a snapshot of how the child performed on one particular day.

Our daughter got:
37/50 English
29/38 Maths
58/80 VR
Standarised Score - 360.78
SHGS 636/19/262
WHGS 720/41/422
The VR score was much lower than all previous test papers. The multiple choice tests should never be thought of as being easier! In our DD's opinion it was the hardest one she'd ever done.

My son's scores were as follows:
ENGLISH 31/50
MATHS 26/38
VR 44/80
CRGS 172
KEGS 298
WHSB 173 (offered, out of area)
Standardised Score: 323.343
Apart from English these were much lower scores than we would have expected but we are very glad that he is going to WHSB which seems a really good school and where I am sure he will have the opportunity to reach his full potential.

My sons scores were as follows
English 36/50
Maths 30/38
VR 52/80
Standardised weighted score of 351.06
we only put whsb because of where we live and he got
820 71 437 so if I have read it correctly 71 from out of catchment list.
I hope this helps and I must say he was doing a lot better in his practice results Ive spoke to his tutor and she said they expect a drop of between 10 and 15% in results due too nerves etc. So maybe that is why we are all so suprised with the results.

Hello,
SCORES FROM A YEAR ON
just thought would post my daughters scores. As you may know, she was offered a place after allocations day.Phew
Thought it would be worth posting to show that there is a real variation from year to year. As you have read last year, girls and boys with lower scores, even in the mid sixties in some papers, got in to the Chelmsford schools ,on the allocations day.
English 37/50 (74%)
Maths 29/40 ( 72,5%)
VR 57/80 (72 %)
Not her usual scores ,at least a drop of 10 -15 % in each paper.
So there is hope to get in with less than the 90% everyone quotes- but do allow for a drop due to nerves on the day.
Good luck everyone.
