Just wondering if anyone knows if many girls travel from Cheltenham to Stroud High School, or do most people go to Ribston if they can't get in to Denmark Road?

Does anyone know if there is a bus from Cheltenham to Stroud High?

Thanks so much for any advice!

Can't specifically answer for Stroud High but I have 2 boys at Marling and know of no one who comes from Cheltenham. One or two from Glos or maybe half way between Stroud and Chelt, but the numbers must be very small if anyone does travel.
I would ask the school office - they may be able to put you in touch with others who might do the jouney.

I've also been wondering about the journey from Cheltenham to Stroud for my DS1 (re Marling.) Did an internet trawl last night, but couldn't see any sign of a school bus unfortunately. The only public bus I could find that might suit is Stagecoach no.46 which leaves my part of Cheltenham around 7.30am and gets to Stroud (Merrywalks) at 8:05. Don't know how much of a walk it would be from there to Marling or Stroud High. Anyone out there in Stroud and can advise please??

My ex-husband made the (unhelpful) suggestion that I should "stick him in a taxi every day"! Don't think he realises it's 19 miles each way.

In addition to the logistics of this, I suspect that not many children go to school in Stroud from Cheltenham, which might make the whole friendship thing much harder....

Thoughts/advice on this gratefully received.

The walk from the bus station to either of the Grammars is not far and there will be quite a few other children doing it at both ends of the day.

There might be a few other children getting on the no. 46 en route from places like Cranham and Painswick.

The other option is getting together with any other Cheltenham parents and organising your own minibus (or even taxi between several of you). I know this is done from other parts of the county south of Stroud.

It really is the friendship thing that makes you worried. Not too keen on spending my whole life trawling my daughter around when most of her friends have been in Cheltenham up until now. Problem is the results at Ribston do not seem to be that great in comparison to DR and Stroud High.

I am actually looking at going the opposite way from Stroud area to Cheltenham and there is a mini bus operated by Mini bus direct in Cheltenham so they may be able to help you they are on 08452268095 and on the internet.

Can I ask if anyone from Stroud area is at Pates?

I only know of one person who travels to Pates from Stroud (boy in year 9) but he gets a lift in with a parent who works nearby.

Ask at the meetings / summer induction days at the school - there are lots of lift share schemes in operation for all the Grammar Schools - I am sure that transport issues can be overcme in most cases

There is/was a minibus from Minchinhampton to Pates, and I know of a Y7 lad from Stroud whose dad works close by, so goes in dads car. Certainly it's not unknown from Stroud.

There is a coach which starts at Minchinhampton and goes via Nailsworth, Dudbridge, Merrywalks, Painswick and the A46 to Pate's. Pick up at Stroud Merrywalks is around 7:40-7:45 in the morning. Drop off at Dudbridge is around 4:40 in the afternoon. There's a spread of years on the coach which is helpful for the Y7s and the atmosphere is friendly.
