Help! Unsure whether my child is bright enough..

Post by tdb69 »

I had decided that I would like my son to go to a grammar school. He is a bright boy, but not exceptional. However, asked his teacher what she thought his chances might be and she said she thought he would be unlikely to manage to get in, but as hadn't know him for long I should ask her again in a few months. I am shocked as I thought he was capable. My question is, has anybody else been in this position and what would you do? I feel confident enough to work with him preparing for the tests.

Do you know of a tutor who can do an independent assessment of your son?

The tutor we use did a very comprehensive assessment in VR, NVR, reading, spelling, Numeracy and Maths at the end of year 3 and/or 4 which gave us a very good indication, this was very useful to me as the children's current primary school doesn't do this (they use CATs) until the end of year 5 which is a bit late if you want to do any preparation.

Obviously this isn't foolproof but she's been right twice so far!

there are 2 strands running on the same point - maybe a mod could put 'em in one?? Make it easier to keep track of.
