Regarding the preference to staff children. I know others schools are using this too, but it's at the first point on Crypt's tie breaker

Assuming that it's to differentiate between children of an equal score, the chances of it being used are fairly slim - not many staff send their children to the same school that they work in (though I do know of one or two).

I think it may well be in the new schools admissions code due to come into force on 1st Feb (assuming parliament approves it) that schools can give priority to children of staff.

I suppose it's one way of retaining your valued staff.
