Where do these VR questions fit ?

Post by steppemum »

Hi, I was looking at the VR examples on Pates website and I came across these. I am DIY tutoring and we have been working according to the different types. I can't work out where these fit in. Are they Z type questions?
Are there random extra questions that you can't prepare for?
Or am I just being thick and they are one of the types?

1. Identify the most appropriate word to fit the sentence, one for each bracket,

a. To keep healthy one must take plenty of
examinations; exiles; excitement; exercise; extensions

2. For the following questions, mark on your answer sheet the word that rhymes with the word in capital letters

a. YACHT act; dot; match; you; fat

3. In each of the following lists of words one word is spelt incorrectly

a. fulfil; skilful; watchful; fully; plentiful

They make me a bit nervous, as they are ones that I am much less sure that ds will be able to do! (especially spelling!)

I can't spot the spelling mistake.

skilful

OP had spelt wrongly from the paper - it was skilfull on Pate's questions.

I had to look twice! (Also had to edit as I double checked, and there are alternative spellings! Skillful is US version) Not the easiest of questions......!
Sorry not sure about the types. I've managed to forget very quickly.
I wouldn't imagine they would put types that are unrelated but I only recognise no. 1 in a slightly different context from your list.
Anyone else??

I thought that was the American spelling. We've been given a list that says it's 'skilful' with just one l in the middle.

They aren't type Z as these tend to be very wordy - 'the train leaves station A at 8:08 and travels at 50 mph, what time did Alice eat her breakfast' type of stuff

Just as an aside my DD and I took a look at the example papers on the Pates website recently and she found 3 typos on paper 4. That was the first paper we looked at so it knocked my confidence in using the papers at all when tutoring. If my DS had been doing a timed test it would have thrown him. Maybe the example papers on the site aren't the best ones to use. Can't think why they'd allow typos on them though
