No, it's different in Glos. If you have taken the 11+ test in Glos and been unsuccessful, you can ask the school directly (from the beginning of year 7) if there are spaces. If there are, you take the test outlined in my above post. There is one exception to the rule, which is if you have not passed the 11+ then appealed against the decision in year 6. In that case you are not allowed entry until year 8. Plenty of students do apply near the end of year 7 and, if they pass the school test, gain entry in year 8.
