It will be interesting to see what is going to happen with the tutor industry, the new test although "un-tutorable" will no doubt be a huge opportunity for franchise type arrangements, due to the broad nature of the test, but what of the individual personal tutors ?

I fear many of these high quality individual tutors will have to limit the number of children they take on, this is certainly the opinion of our tutor who will only take a quarter of those taken previously. So, a tip for those of you browsing for next year, find out who these fantastic individuals are no doubt going to get booked up early and get your name on their list !

I'm sure lots of cramming centres will be turning up from next year, which is fine if that works for your child but I think these exams are more about getting the basics in place and building from there, which is something which just cannot be crammed....what are your thoughts ?..........

I have been tutoring a couple of Dds friends along with her and I have found that the basics are the most important part of the work we have been doing. When the parents came and told me that there had been a noticeable improvement in their school work since seeing me, which made me happy as I keep saying there are no guarantees with the exam but if they understand more they will cope better with the SATs.

Some of these big franchised centres don't even use qualified people, they only look for GCSE grade c for maths and English. I do agree that good individual personal tutors will get booked up, I also think that not all have been fully prepared for the exam change as friends with tutors have been getting old VR stuff which will not be relevant to the new exam and even not doing any numerical work. Make sure any tutors can do the numerical side as well as the verbal.
