What is this forecast 8% reduction in secondary school numbers that they refer to? Maybe there are large years that will be moving out of the top end of schools as the year group with the smallest numbers (current Y9 I think) moves up. But the forecasts can't be saying there will be an 8% reduction in Y7 numbers, surely? I'm sure we've all seen statistics showing that from Y9 downwards, every year is bigger than the year above. Or have I remembered that incorrectly?

from Stroud Life explains that while pupil numbers will be going up in Gloucestershire generally, and in Cheltenham and Gloucester in particular, they will not be going up in Stroud. That makes a lot more sense to me than the general "pupil numbers forecast to fall" in the Guardian article.
