Standardisation this year

Post by gloucestermum »

Does anybody have a view as to how this years test will have been standardised.I am thinking about the fact that more children will have taken the test this year. Will it have been standardised so that the same percentage will have passed the test as in previous years,or just have more passes than usual?
There seem to be an awful lot of passes at DS school this year..........12 out of 18 children qualified for a school

standardisation

They standardise the scores so that a certain number pass - for Pate's 160 children are deemed to 'qualify'.

It isn't a percentage that pass nor is it a fixed number of questions from the test that need to be correct - the top 160 (for Pate's) qualify - irrespective of their test score.

A couple of marks can be added according to age for the youngest in the year but no gender difference is taken into account at all.

The mark required to be in the top 160 at Pate's this year will have been higher.

The other schools do exactly the same they just pass / 'qualify' more students because they knwo their brightest candidates opt for Pate's.

Good luck :D

Thanks Gloucsteacher - your comments are very much appreciated and very helpful.

My son is hoping to gain a place at Crypt and was successful in passing the test so fingers crossed he will get his wish. It's a shame that the LA didn't leave the grammars to offer the places (as you pointed out in one of your other posts) as this would have avoided the awful wait until March next year..a long time for a 10/11 year old but forever for the parents!!
