Travel from Cricklade area to Ribston

Post by theseneschal »

Hi, does anyone know what buses are available from the Cricklade area to Ribston Hall please? I've googled it nothing much comes up so I thought I'd ask the experts!

Hi I notice you have not had a reply yet and suspect there might not be many doing that particular journey. I asked my dd who is at Ribston - and loves the school. I asked if she knows of anyone who travels a long way and her response was well yes there are some that do ....but she did not really know why they did ....she kind of said "it is only a school ...i'm not sure it would be worth travelling all that way for it." It is such a long way to go for parents evenings, trips that arrive back in the middle of the night, collect sick children as well as the day to day journeys along frequently congested roads. I know you are in a difficult position and I think were hoping for SHS ...this is the nightmare of school selection :?

My sons say the same about STR - there were boys who used to sleep through the lunch hours in the lower years as the journeys were so onerous. It all paled into insignificance when DD went to Pates though and told me of some of the voyages undertaken to get there. I don't know where Cricklade is really so won't even attempt to comment on this one. Good luck OP.

Thank you both. I did get a pm and Denwells do the run. Dd1 goes to Stroud at 7:27 and the one to Ribston is 7:25 so not much in it. One is shorter with more stops on the way, the other is longer with fewer stops.

She really wants an all girl grammar. I've questioned her every way hoping she's saying this for her sake not ours and she's holding firm.

We live in a rural location so it would be a car to a bus anyway. If the buses are co-ordinated (as above) it would be easier on a day to day basis even though a bit of a bother on odd days like parents evening as you point out.

Currently with dd1 at Stroud I know two other parents and we help each other out with lifts. I'm hoping it will become easier as they get older as if she wants to do a club she can get a train and miss her bus although we've yet to test the theory.

Thanks for your good wishes it's a testing time for us all!

hi, we are Swindon, and ds goes to Stroud on the train. It works very well, and there is a group of them that do it, so if your dd at Stroud did ever need to train it, rest assured it works!

Thank you steppemum, I have thought of it as an option when she's a little older giving a bit more freedom, just out of interest do you have a rough cost of how much you spend on train fares. It'd be interesting to see how it compares to the bus.

I'm curious about this post. Is that not something you considered prior to making the application? Just wondering.....

I know that all grammars are served well by bus services. I thought I'd work out the specifics nearer the time. I've had some helpful PMs and fully sorted out now :-)
