I need some ideas from parents whose children have made it into QE this year or are already at QE. I'm after suggestions of books to read, either fiction or non-fiction for a pretty reluctant reader (year 5) to improve both his vocab and comprehension skills. What did your boys enjoy? I am going to really push the reading over the next few months but have no idea what boys these days enjoy.

Harry potter Series, Deltora Quest by Emily Rodda series(8 books) + Shadowland series, Horrible Science, Horrible Histories, Horrible Geography, Horrible Maths and the accompany sereis The Knowledge

Authors:
Artemis Fowl,Anthony Horowitz Books, Darren Shan, Michelle Paver. Garth Nix

not many classics but even Jeremy Strong books, although simple, provided some story structuring ideas.

Remembered this thread and my child has gone through quite a few of the books mentioned.

+ Cornelia Funke and her books (Dragon Rider etc). Really gripping staff!

Have just found 'The Thief Lord' on the bookshelf - must have brought it a long time ago and forgotten about it. I'll use it as a starting point.
