Hello all

Please bear with me as it's my 1st time on here

My DD is of average ability (maths 4b and Eng 4A) and is going to Watford girls through cross sibling.

Does anyone have any success stories of similar children.

DD is motivated and works hard. She is good at science- above average.

Your DD will have a great time at WGGS, yes there are some very able girls there but not all of them are able just academically. Plenty of distance entry and other siblings are there who did not pass the exam to get in not to mention music entry (my DD). My experience has been that DD's have the possibility of doing well at music, drama, sports, humanities and many other non academic extra curricular activities.

The classes are mostly mixed for the first couple of years except streaming Maths in year 7 on and English from year 8. My DD (will be Y10 in Sept) has several friends across the ability spectrum and all love the school for different things but mainly for the great atmosphere and opportunities.

You mentioned she is motivated and hard working, these are great attributes and she will find the school responding well to her attitude and in return she will be stimulated and encouraged. Prize giving each year also rewards "effort" the same as "ability" amongst other awards.

I'm sure she'll do very well then. Whenever the Head seems to talk to us new parents she mentions this in between threatening all sorts for taking term-time holidays so you probably have nothing to worry about.

Difficult not to be concerned when there are likely to be some very academic girls going there.

On a different note, I heard at the induction day that there are several girls going to WGSG from independant schools. Has anyone heard the same?

I know several girls who are going to WGSG from independent schools. It's a popular school.

Apart from it being a good school do you think it's mainly due to financial constraints?

It is unlikely - I live quite close to the school and some of DD's friends moved house just to be within the catchment area! You shouldn't worry, I'm sure they'll all get on well together, I've heard good things about the school and know people who teach there

please don't worry some May,June,July and August born ie younger in year are slow starter but catch up nicely.So long as they willing to work they will shine I promise.It's always a worry for parents when first child is going to grammar school.We all wonder how they will cope ,only to find out later(IT WAS ALL FINE).
