Score too low for Parmiters?

Our ds scored 211 on academic and only 29 on his music. Do we have any chance of getting into Parmiters? Even adding 25 to the score is way below last year. His music was especially disappointing as he thought he did really well.

Secondly, we have not told him his results. He was so confident he is getting in and I don't quite know whether to tell him or not. We have been deliberately hazy. I don't want to dent his confidence. I have told him all along that he might get a very high score but still not get in so not to get his hopes up.

It also doesn't help that after the open day my wife said she had a bad feeling/vibe about the school and didn't like the answers the teachers gave when we asked questions. She thought ds would be miserable there. I will admit, I didn't feel any good vibes there either, but I guess I want the best for him and it does have good results.

Should I just write Parmiters off eventhough I put it on the form?

We love Parmiter's, but we would never have sent our kids there if we'd both had negative feelings about the place. Life's too short. It sounds like the bigger problem is convincing your DS that it might not be the place for him. I hope it works out well for you.

In Herts you can change your preferences right until a few seconds to midnight tomorrow night.

Why would you put a school down that you and your wife both do not like just because it has good results?

Nothing would convince me to send my dds to a school that I did not like. I would not care if every single student in the school got 15 a stars at GCSE and 4 a stars at A2.

I would suggest you remove Parmiters from your list, there are other schools in the consortium, DG

I agree with DG. Go for the school that you feel is the best fit for your child, not the one with the best results.

We live relatively near to Parmiters and I had heard great things about the music department (my daughter's main interest!) but when we attended the open day in her Y5 I just didn't feel comfortable with a number of things and didn't think it would be a good fit for her. As soon as we entered WGGS we knew she would be happy there and we were fortunate to eventually gain a place. Interestingly, when we looked around Parmiters again for DS I was much more impressed and felt it would have been a great school for him - what suits one child may not suit another!

The best school for your son to go to is the one you all feel happiest with! Amazing results do not necessarily mean the learning environment will suit your son. He will achieve where he is happy. Really consider carefully if he will get the best experience at Parmiters before putting it on your form.
