Hi, My DC scored 212 in Hertfordshire 11+ exam. We are not in Hertfordshire. But for future reference just want to understand and know what are the passing marks, is this pass or not? how do you know, they haven't clarified in the letter, although they have suggested to add 25% additional marks to the score, I m not able to understand.

My reason for asking is my nephew is doing 11+ this year and understanding this will make us decide about him as they r flexible to move now but hv no idea about 11+ and look to me as my DC is allotted a grammar place....

Many thanks! Very curious X

There is no pass mark. Each school offers their academic places to the top scoring children and then stops. The score each school stops at is made available by the school on their website and compiled by a member of this forum and listed in a thread at the top of the page.

If a child turns down their place, then the school offers it to the next highest scoring child.

I just wanted to point out that schools which form part of the South West Herts Consortium (SWHC) aren't grammer schools! The schools offer a number of places usually 25% of their total intake based on academic performance against SWHC academic tests. The other places in the school are offered on a number of different admissions criteria such as distance, siblings etc. Blackbuck, I suggest you read the admission criteria of the schools to decide the best route for entry for your nephew.

Your ds did not sit the Hertfordshire 11 plus exam as there is no such thing. There are two selective exams in Hertfordshire. One is the SW Herts Consortium that your ds sat and the other is Dame Alice Owen's. Both schools used the same CEM English paper this year which was a new format for both schools. Lots of parents and tutors were not aware that the format had changed which was why the marks were so low this year.

Which of the SW Herts Consortium schools did you apply for or did you just sit the test and not apply for any of them?

If you look on the websites of all the schools in the consortium you can see if 212 would have got a place this year.

The mark to get a place will be a lot higher this year so you are better off looking at the mark to get a place in previous years.

You also need to look carefully at the residence rules for the catchment area if the family it planning to move. DG
