Looking to help DS with his schooling and a little confused as to when he will be taking the 11+ test? He was born on the 19/1/2008 and is currently 8 years old. Does the 11+ happen when the child is 11?

Thanks for all your help.

It happens in the autumn of year 6, so in your DS's case, he will be 10 (it is the school year in which they turn 11, so the majority sit it when they are 10).

Most start tutoring (whether that is at home with parental help or a formal tutor or tutor group) in Y5, although you hear of it happening a lot earlier. Before Y5 just make sure they are reading widely, developing their vocab and have a love of learning. If doing Independent school applications that is a different kettle of fish as some can be testing on material not covered in state school curriculum so best to get some past sample papers from their websites if they have them.

Given that you have a child at QE wouldn't it be the same as when you prepared that child?
