Hi,

Can't comment for QEB, following is relevent for Watford Grammar Boys and is an extract from post re Watford Grammar Girls which should help:

Are you aware that Watford Girls is part of a Selective Consortium of 6 schools:

Watford Grammar Boys
Watford Grammar Girls
Parmiters
Rickmansworth
Queens
Bushey Mill

These schools have a policy of selection which varies (up to 35%) of their intake based upon academic abilitity. The tests comprise Maths and Verbal reasoning.

Some of the schools also select 10% on musical ability.

Exams for Watford Girls and other schools in consortium:

Verbal Reasoning - 2005 sitting was 100 questions in 45 minutes, (2004, I believe, was 80 questions in 50 minutes)
Maths - 2005 sitting 50 questions in 50 minutes

One sitting for both papers - usually the last Saturday in November. 1 additional sitting offered in the event of being unable to sit due to illness, but must be supported by a Doctor's note.

As I have said before there isn't a pass mark and places are awarded strictly in ascending order of scores.

There are no past papers available. The familiarisation papers which he consortium sends out are of little or no use as they comprise of 6 questions for Maths and 5/6 types of Verbal Reasoning questions.

You will need to have completed the KS2 Maths curriculum to stand any chance on the Maths. We used Carol Vordeman revision books and a KS2 curriculum study aid book and IPS book of 10 x 35 minute revision papers for Maths.

For VR we used Susan Daughtrey Technique Books 1-7 and AFN.

You have signed in as "Child", are you aware that this does get quite expensive in terms of buying books. Do you have a tutor/financial support?

If getting books is an issue have a look at some of the internet links posted on this site for VR. For Maths you could use some of the internet resources for revision. BBC site is quite good, but I would certainly try and invest in the IPS maths papers and VR practise papers (either IPS or AFN) to give yourself a fighting chance.

Good Luck.

Dear "Child",

LAST YEAR:

For Watford Grammar there are two exams on the same day:

Maths Multiple Choice (50 questions in 50 minnutes)
Verbal Reasoning Multiple Choice (100 questions in 45 minutes)

For Queen Elizabeth's (QE) School for Boys there are four exams, two in December and two in January. You have to do well in December to be invited back in January.

Dec - Verbal Reasoning Multiple Choice (85 questions in 50 minutes)
Dec - Non-Verbal Reasoning Multiple Choice (50 minutes)
Jan - English Multiple CHoice (50 questions in 50 minutes)
Jan - Maths Multiple Choice (50 questions in 50 minutes)

The December exams can vary - i.e. be Maths and English first then verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning, but for the last few years has not changed.

All papers are set by NFER Nelson.
