My DS started at Skinners this Sept as well. He is so very happy there, I couldn't have wished for better. The head does seem very hands on, he was even there on the touch line watching the first Year 7 rugby matches!

First post - be gentle!

We went to a number of open evenings / days, but on a straight comparison between Judd and Skinners, we had largely the same reaction to other posters. The Skinners head was very impressive and the science specialism is truly fantastic. The Judd head wasn't inspiring in the same way, but the facilities are great and if you're very mathematical it would be the place to go.

For us with two DS's it would be a quality problem to have the choice, but on the basis of the open evenings, all of us preferred Skinners.

DS1 is Year 5, so we used this as an opportunity to give him an idea of what all the local schools were like and to set the benchmark. Fortunately he came out with a firm desire to go to grammar, which hopefully means he will follow it up with the work. (Wishful thinking here maybe!)

Thanks Tonbridgemum, yes we certainly went through it all last year, but then it still didn't end because we didn't know til March whether DS had enough marks for the schools on the CAF. Does seem amazing that it was a year ago though. This forum kept me sane throughout. Even though I have no more children to go through the dreadful process, I feel for everyone waiting for results. Best of Luck to your hard working kids.
