sorry , I don;t know the numbers. Would KCC be able to help?

the only advice I can give is if you do appeal, be sure to stress why you want that school, rather than why you don;t want the one you have been allocated.

There is a very good Q&A bit on the general appeals section.

Good luck

Thanks yoyo, we want this one as she was allocated Brockhill because she was under on the maths paper by 1 point!
We are appealing a grammar place and entry to FGS x

if it was only 1 point I would definitely recommend appealing.

In answer to the OP, there is no such thing as a number of places available for appeal at any school.

I think that they were undersubscribed by 65 or whatever places last year...that is what the OP is referring to I believe. I have heard a rumor in the playground (dodgy I know) that there are less places available this year due to this whole East to West thing...

Thanks people and yes, there were 65 unallocated places last year, 80 were given entry on appeal from what I have been told.
I have done my letter, just gathering references (only sending in 2 because I think too much is overkill)

My dd wants to write a letter for inclusion (she's overheard dad & I talking about it) - is this a good idea? I am thinking not!

If they have empty places, surely they give these out via the waiting lists not by appeal. It should only be places above the standard admissions numbers that are forced in by appeal. If it was all done by appeal, it's a waste of appeal panel and LEA officer time, and needs to be stopped.

Hi Mystery,
They don't have a waiting list...they were under subscribed...They hold lots of non-qualification appeals. I have heard that they are going to have fewer places this year though, due to trying to balance out the East/West thing everyone has been talking about on here...don't really understand how it works unless they build more grammars in the west though...

Oh I see, that provides a missing link in the jigsaw puzzle.

But that's an awful lot of places to fill via non-qualification appeals. And if there's a shortage of places in certain locations in the East of Kent for those who have passed, it's surprising that there isn't anyone who has passed who wants to go on the waiting list for Folkestone.
