Hi all, it's been a fair while since I've been on here as we've been in the the long, hard process of moving house, deep joy!! Hope everyone's well!!
Right, I'm just after any scraps of good news really, I feel quite a lot of despair right now!! :( We moved into Kent a couple of weeks ago & I'm trying to find out any information on whether or not it's even worth applying to any grammar schools anymore. DS passed his 11+ in Bucks but we never got to find out if he'd won a place as we moved just weeks too early & obviously no longer needed to be considered there. We now need to apply for both Kent & Medway grammar schools as both have the nearest grammar schools to us, (we're situated in Minster).
DS is sitting his Kent test this week & then his Medway test in 2 weeks.
This is a lot to put him through if it's not at all worth it but with allocations going through as we speak, there's absolutely no way to see if there are going to be any places anywhere. At the moment there obviously shows no spaces (according to both councils), however noone can say whether there ever will be. I just wondered in anyones experience whether it's worth us going ahead & trying anyway & maybe getting in on appeal if DS does pass his tests or whether people don't ever really get places very often in our circumstances?
I fully realise that noone can give us a definite answer by any means but I'm just wondering if there's any hope in anyones guess???
Many thanks in anticipation :) x x

Hi - i remember your posts a few months ago - If your son is ok about tests then why not let him sit them, if it dosnt stress him there is no harm in that. If he passed you could put his name on waiting lists if nothing else. I know chatham boys in the medway has places but that is a long journey for you. Rainham mark is full. Good luck and keep us posted. Sorry i havnt been alot of help :)

Hi tiredmum, thanks for remembering me
Any positivity is greatly appreciated right now so thank you!!
Chatham was going to be on our list anyway as one of the closest to us, also we're going to apply for Borden, (was going to apply for RGS) & maybe the Maths school in Rochester as that's DS' specialist subject!!
DS does happen to enjoy doing the tests luckily but we've only had 3 days in which to revise aaaarrrggghhh!!!

Oh & not to mention the fact that we're yet to unpack the answer sheets for our revision books so he's been doing the books without knowing the certain scores, I can mark them so much but even I sometimes can see 2 possible answers to some of the NV questions, so that's no help at all, if anyone feels like divulging the answers to the more fourth NV questions, I'd love you forever

well i know that the maths school is usually oversubscribed and uses distance to allocate place. If RGS is the rochester grammar school then this is a girls school, im sure your son would enjoy it there though  Is bordon boys or mixed? I hear they have vacancies.

Well just been researching & it's quite obvious that the Maths school is out of the question, so that's one down!!
Borden is a boys only, that's going to be our first choice then after that it's a little pot luck but with the best chances!! RGS is a mixed school & that would definitely be our first choice if it wasn't so seemingly out of reach but never mind we certainly can't afford to be too choosy at this stage. Local Secondary is out of the question at all costs so feeling pretty desperate!! :(
