I'm very confused as getting lots of conflicting information. Does anyone know if the Kent 11+ Maths test is Standard or Multiple Choice?

Also does anyone know the correct times of each exam eg, is Maths 60 minutes and VR and NVR 50 minutes.

Being told lots of different things :?

Hi Tennisnut,
This is the info I got from Kent Admissions when I contacted them last month;

a) Verbal Reasoning Test (c.50 minutes): an 80-item test, in multiple
choice format;

b) Non -Verbal Reasoning Test (c.40 minutes plus admin time): a 72-item
test, split into 4 sections. 18 questions in each section, for which 9
minutes is allowed. Test is in multiple choice format;

c) Maths Test (60 minutes): a 50-item test with questions appropriate to
pupils
at Level 4 and above in Key Stage 2, in multiple choice format.

Pupils will also be required to complete a writing exercise from a list
of upto 6 titles under test conditions which will take one hour. This
will NOT be marked and is not something which will affect a pupil's
standardised score: it is simply to ensure that at least one good,
extended sample of a pupil's unaided written work is available should
his or her assessment require further consideration.

Hope this is useful

Thank you Layla22.
That is very interesting because we have been working on timing the Maths test to 50 minutes which means we have more time. (breathes a sigh of relief)
However, the NVR we have been doing amounts to 6 sections of 12 questions, which means more scope for failure if you have a question type you struggle on as it could be a quarter of your marks! (panic rising again)
Really hoping nets do not appear as I have not covered these at all.
DD is having a week off this week and will be back on Monday. That will give us two weeks to cement all the pieces together and hope they hold out until the big day.
Can't wait to get it out of the way but I am also aware that the next thing to worry about will be results day.
Deep breath..... One day at a time. :wink:

Hello,

Thanks for the info Layla. Did they specify if the Maths test is 60 minutes to answer 50 questions or does that include admin time of 10 mins? Would be lovely to have an extra 10 minutes!

Chocolately mum, I bought the new gl-assessment guide to NVR types and there are no nets so I'm sure it's safe to carry on ignoring them. There are many types of NVR question but we've concentrated on the 8 types specified by GL.

4 weeks today and, for Kent children at least, this will all be over...

Yoyo, I've been searching on HIKNOS in Kent. Your posts are great - is it correct that only type O has cropped up, a few years ago?

DS has covered them in school anyway, but I got a fright when I opened gl-assessment paper 5 and it contained the whole Hiknos family!

I have ignored them so far, along with nets! Do you think a trawl through the IPS methods book and a few examples per type would be sufficient?

I would , just to be on the safe side, so that the question type is familiar and doesn't cause a panic on the day!

Thank you for your nice comments too

Just rang Kent admissions and they confirmed the maths paper is 50 questions in 60 minutes, excluding any admin time.

I am so scared about the NVR. There is no reaction time. Got to speed Ds up. He is just breaking even, got to keep some time for checking. Any suggestions?
