Hi

Can anyone tell me if TWGSB has announced if they are taking on an extra form for September 2014 entry?

Many thanks in advance

Sorry, don't know. Shouldn't really be replying!

According to another site, they turned away 36 first choice boys, some of whom were west kent boys who had passed the test and were offered non-selectives. I have seen hints on here that there were only 4 west kent boys who passed the test and were not offered a grammar school on 1 march. Is that right?

If so, another class at twgsb seems unlikely unless they are wanting to pull in some extra children late in the day from other schools inside or outside kent. Don't some grammars offer sneaky late sittings of the 11 plus to boost their numbers sometimes?

If twgsb has true difficulties fitting in an extra class year on year maybe they are saving up space for a more bumper year of applicants than this one?

Hi tigger2. No, there is will be no extra class this year. in previous years parents have received notification and this hasnt happened this year.
I think the school genuinely have a problem with space and try to accommodate more boys where possible ever few years but obviously this isn't possible every year - fortunately Judd and Skinners have stepped in in the last couple of years.
my DS is year 11. His year group did take an extra form and of course they will be moving on/sixth form at the end of this school year so potentially there would have been room for another form to replace the existing year 11's.
As mystery suggests, it may not have been needed this year due to Skinners and Judd.

I think they could probably still do so if they wanted to ..... But agree with tonbridge mum that it looks like a no.

Thank you for your replies...much appreciated. I didn't think that they had made an announcement but thought it worth asking my EPE friends to make sure!
I am guessing that the number of appeals might make a difference but from what I have heard numbers may be lower than in previous years.
Thanks again !

If would be very surprised if only 4 boys were not offered grammar schools in west kent since I personally know 3! They all live in north west kent but after the first round the cut off was still almost 2 miles from where we are (admittedly right near the border). Either we are incredibly unlucky, or there are more than four children in this situation. I think there is still a problem with the boys since all the girls from the same school got straight in to TOGS or Weald but the only one to get a TWGSB offer already had a sibling at the school. A 4th child at the school got offered a school in Maidstone, so although it is technically a grammar school offer, there is no possible way of him getting there!

Yes, I know of boys at my DS primary without a grammar place as they were not offered TWGSB. That really surprised me with both Judd & Skinners taking extra classes. That is why I think there is the need for a Sevenoaks Grammar, as with the increasing primary intakes, this situation will surely only get worse. I would be surprised if TWGSB did take an extra form though, as they did so only 2 years ago, and I was under the impression they could only do so once every 3 years, once the extra class year moved into the next Key Stage. Hopefully as the lists shift, it will open up enough places for the boys who need grammar places.

There must be more than 4 boys because I know of 3 that qualified but didn't get a place. With regard the girls does anyone know how oversubscribed they were? I looked over on the other website for info but couldn't see anything...it would be interesting to know how many girls made WoK their first choice and were offered another school on their caf. I have to ring KCC later this week so I will ask about that and Twgsb.

I believe the "4 boys not getting a grammar place" refers to last years intake. I.e those starting year 7 in 2013.

There were 4 boys after the waitlist/appeals etc who passed the 11 plus but were not offered
a grammar place. Offers of grammar places continue right up until the Sept start of term so there will still be a lot of movement between now and Sept. Hopefully all those to whom you refer will be offered soon.

For the current Year 7, there were actually five (and on some accounts seven) spaces at the school by the time the appeals started (early May). There were 29 appeals and I think 22 boys were judged of grammar school standard. Teh appeal board judged that the school could take 12 over PAN so 17 of the 22 boys were given a grammar school place immediately after the appeals and I think (not 100% sure) that the remaining five boys were gradually offered a place over the remaining months until the new academic year started. You could check with the school but I don't think there were any boys on the waiting list by the time September came round.
