Thanks Twinkle. The difficulty with the electives I found was they change from year to year, so no guarantees and very dependant on max numbers per group. I remember there was a list and they had to put an order of preference . Shame the Spanish couldn't continue with the option of taking a GCSE.

OP, DG and Judd are both great schools so you have a lovely choice to make but I would reiterate what the others have said, you need to go for which feels best for your DS.

Both my DS were fortunate enough to have the same choice, albeit Judd and Skinners, and although Judd was a quicker journey Skinners felt a better fit so that's where they very happily are. They both have good friends at Judd who are equally happy.

Well done and good luck.

We are hoping for Dartford Grammar; if we fail to make it then we will go for grammar schools in Bexley. BETHS Grammar did stand out as a very good school on recent open days.
Wow sweeping statements !! DS is year 11 at Judd and whilst no school is perfect the end result of circa 80 students achieving A/A* at A level in all their subjects and circa 20 going to Oxbridge (if that floats your boat) let alone those that didn't want to go there and went to other top uni's. each year kind of speaks for itself.

There are of course other amazing schools and its important you get the right "fit" for your child but look at the facts too before you criticise. The teacher to whom you refer is a very old historic case and i feel to mention that as an opinion on Judd and its teachers is wholly harsh and inaccurate ! :cry:

Although Judd is not a language specialist in my humble opinion (DS year 11 at Judd) he is excelling in particular in French/German and Latin. With i might add zilch help from me or anyone else at home. All the teachers are pretty good but in my experience language teachers are superb and he's going on to study them all at A Level. Lots of great trips/exchanges etc supporting their learning.

DS got 398 OOC

May be i am wrong .. but so far what i found in the league tables of 2013 is Dartfords academic achievement is little above than Judd . However i know this is all number and may have many factors taken into account

For example according to 2013 league table (BBC/ telegraph )

GCSE : http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/le ... mance.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Judd : Total average point score per pupil for 553.9
Dartford : Total average point score per pupil for 578.9

A Level : http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-25849550" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Judd : Average point score per full time equivalent academic student : 994.4 ( not in top 100)
Dartford : Average point score per full time equivalent academic student : 1193.4 (15th in UK)

Obviously academic achievement is not everything .. but when it comes to make decision it does play a bit of role

when the exam ended i thought its all over !!!!!! Doesn't look like it !!!

School tables have always been a mystery to me, but they are used often in selecting schools.

This article is worth a read. Some of the schools do much harder exam boards, often IGCSE's so it can often be misleading when comparing schools who do easier boards. It is well known that some schools have children taking 14 "easier" gcse's than more academic schools that opt for 10 "harder" ones. Some tables can be mis read as a result. Some tables i think don't include all the iGCSE's taken.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/le ... ummet.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

A good teacher friend always advises finding out where the pupils go afterwards is much more beneficial that the endless tables.

Not all GCSE's are the same at all (bonkers i know) but the Universities seem to know exactly this.

I'd suggest at open days you specifically ask what courses are taken at GCSE and compare on that basis and how many go to Russell group and oxbridge universities ... if thats your thing.

Why cant they make it easier for parents ......
