Re: Raw Scores
Same as my DS: i expected much higher in his Maths.. i was quite shocked when result came thru at 119 End of year 5 was a level 5a, will prob leave year 6 on level 6, just expected much higherPanicMode wrote:Just got my son's today - he was 10yrs 5 months on the day of the test
English - 22/24 128
Maths - 19/30 (a very bad day at the office for him!) 124
Reasoning - 65/80 (also poor, for him) 135
Looks as though having to get 100% on the English to get 138 is correct.
We were extremely surprised at his maths score - it has always been his strongest subject and he's always got far higher scores in maths than in his English, and in every CAT/NFER he has had 100% in the reasoning. So although an aggregate score of 387 is good, it's somewhat lower than we were expecting....
Re: Raw Scores
Here's another one to add to the mix:
DD was 11 when she sat the test:
English 24 out of 24 100% 138
Maths 19 out of 30 63% 122
Reasoning 55 out of 80 69% 121
Aggregate score 381

Just got mine
DD was 10 and 3 months
Maths 14/30 (46.7%) 113
English 20/24 (83.3%) 118
Reasoning 65/80 (81.3%) 135
She's strong on maths so this was disappointing.

Re: Raw Scores
Ok that's madness how can you fail English with 63%but pass maths with 40% ??

Re: Raw Scores
I dont think the fact that the pass marks are different matters too much - the standardisation is there to allow for a test bing "easy" or "hard".
However the size of the difference compared to the number of questions concerns me - a test designed to find the top 22% should not need children to score 24/24 to get top marks (as in the English). It means pretty much all the children passing Engilsh scored above 17, and that is a tiny number of questions to discriminate on.
The reverse is true in the maths - although 45% is not much lower than it has been in previous years, the number of questions to be answered in a shsort space of time would suggest an increased number of guesses, meaning that again discriminating between the children is less reliable.
A 50 min English and a 50 min maths would pretty much solve the problem - more data would give more accurate results.

I strongly agree with this! And it's pretty much what I've been saying all along.Kentishmaid wrote:I dont think the fact that the pass marks are different matters too much - the standardisation is there to allow for a test bing "easy" or "hard".

It seems to me, the only reliable result this year is the reasoning, and for my ds the results almost match his mean CAT score, which (for me) proves this theory.
Re: Raw Scores
DS's raw scores (10 and 2 months)
Eng : 14/24 (102)
Maths : 19/30 (125)
Reasoning : 59/80 (128)
He missed the last 4 questions and without guessing in Maths.
