Practice papers - Kent Test

Post by 2015capafaca »

Hi could anybody please advise which practice papers are most aligned to the Kent Test following last year's changes. I've looked at the links and can see GL, Letts, Walsh, Bright Sparks and more. Too much choice! Any thoughts from the experiences of the 2014 test?

This years maths paper was not difficult and the questions were quite varied. Where kids struggled was in the time allocation.

I'd therefore suggest that a wide variety of question style might be helpful, linked to a process of sound mental maths and number bonding. Get them used to working under pressure in a restricted time, with the confidence to do the work in their head where possible. If the Maths exam is only going to be 30 mins, get them to practice answering questions in 30 min chunks so that they learn how to manage the time. This may seem daunting at first but if you keep a record of the results, you will be able to demonstrate progress over time by comparing against old scores. You'll also need to be organised and a wide base of material will be needed or their results will quickly improve through familiarity of the questions!!
