It doesn't matter whether the school is grammar or comp, to appeal (and/or go on the waiting list) you need to have applied in the first place so you'll need to have the comp somewhere on your form.

You may be better ensuring that that the comprehensive schools near you is on your list. If not, and you don't get a school on your CAF you could be allocated anywhere there is a space

Do you only get three preferences in your LA? If you do and Bennett is risky for you because you come very low down on its list of over subscription criteria, then also putting two grammar schools, for which your DD hasn't qualified, sounds like a recipe for finding yourself with a non -ranked allocation come March 1st. Do you have a back-up by way of an independent school or a plan to home educate?
