I live in Bexley and my son will probably sit both the Bexley and Kent tests. Super selective schools have been mentioned, which schools are super selective??

The so-called "super selectives" are the schools which are regularly heavily oversubscribed and which operate an oversubscription criteria which ranks all applicants in order of their 11+ score, resulting in only children with extremely high scores being offered places.

Three West Kent grammars operate these admissions criteria - Judd, Skinners and Tonbridge Girls Grammar. I don't know anything about the schools in the Bexley area I'm afraid.

None of the grammars in Bexley are super-selective, they all take children who pass the 11+, regardless of score, within a certain distance from the school. St Olave's and Newstead Woods in Bromley are super-selective.

Dartford Grammar is slightly different and has quite complex admission criteria (set out in its website). They offer places to children within a certain distance from the school, but keep back a certain number of places (can't remember how many - something like 15) for children outside the catchment area with the highest scores.

Dartford Grammar has now gone this route - at least partly. They offer places to boys living in Dartford who pass the 11+, (usually about 60) and then the other 90 places to the top ranking boys.

Are you sure it's as high as 90 top ranking boys? Dartford Grammar does have a fairly complex admissions criteria, but based largely on location. When I enquired at the school last year I was told that they keep about 15 places back for boys with the highest scores, regardless of where they live.

They have changed their admission criteria this year - we went to the open morning a few weeks ago. They are taking boys from what they call "zone A", which is basically Dartford and close surrounding areas, and said that that usually takes up about 60 places. The remaining 90ish places will depend on combined scores - the top 90 get a place regardless of where they live.

As we live in SE9 i can't decide whether this is a good thing for us or not!

Just confirming 2nd time around's comment. The admissions criteria for MGS from Sept '09 is:

We will offer up to the published admission number of 175.
The criteria for over-subscription are:
1. We will give priority to qualifying pupils from the above
parishes with a combined score of 390 or more in the order of
(a) siblings (b) distance.
2. If places remain, we will give priority to qualifying pupils from
the above parishes in the order of (a) siblings (b) distance.
3. If places remain, we will give priority to qualifying pupils
regardless of address in the order of (a) siblings (b) distance.
Determined by the Governing Body on 19th March 2008

Although TWGGS is not a super selective, it does offer 10% of places to girls outside the catchment who pass very highly. The priority is apparently given to girls in teh Edenbridge, Sevenoaks, Westerham area of Kent.
