The calculator was 12 euros ie £8.40

so 1 euro is the same as 8.40 divided by 12

a cap costing 10 euros is 8.40 x 10/12 = 84/12 = £7

(It should work if you use pen or briefcase .. by the numbers are simpler for the calculator)

if 12 euros = 8.4 pounds then each euro must = 0.7 pounds (by dividing 8.4 by 12.)

we now know that 1 euro =70p

therefore if the cap was 10 euros then it was 10 x 1 euro = 10 x 70p = £7.00

(Not worth the money if you ask me!!)

you can use the others items to double check your answer

See my post to your previous question. The best methodology depends on the actual numbers and values given in the question. This is a question that is structured so that there is a more difficult way and a less difficult way.

The less difficult way.

Calculator: 12 Euros; £8.40
Pen: 22 Euros; £15.40

Difference: 10 Euros; £7.00

You want the price of a 10 Euro cap.
Therefore answer is £7.00
