My older two learned their tables with little difficulty, but the younger two find it much harder to retain them. They do enjoy the little tricks for helping them remember things, especially the 9's, though. It still fascinates me as well as them that any number multiplied by nine will give an answer whose digits add up to nine ( or will do so by repeated adding of the digits); the other trick for the "really challenged by the 9x table" is to hold both hands in front of you palm up, then you fold down the finger counting from the left which corresponds to the number you wish to multiply by nine - the fingers to the left of the folded one is the tens part of the answer and the fngers to the right of it is the units part of the answer. (Yes, I know it only gets you up to 9x9 but it's fun!)
