MEAN NUMBER

Hi

I couldn't even understand this question, pls help :(


What is the mean number of letters in the words of this sentence.

(a) 3
(b) 4
(c) 8
(d) 10

To find the mean average, you add up all the things (in this case, letters) then divide that number by the amount of categories (in this case words)

..4....+2..+3...+4.......+6.....+2.. +7...+2.+3..+5....+2 ..+4.... +8 = 52
What is the mean number of letters in the words of this sentence.
..1....2...3....4..........5.......6....7......8..9.....10....11..12......13

52 / 13 = 4

So the answer is (b) 4

In statistics, "mean" is another word for "average". There are 13 words, with a total of 52 letters, so the average is 4.

Add all the numbers and devide by the number of numbers. It doesn't really matter if you are adding numbers or letters.
