To solve most teachers recommend the following:

First collect all x terms on the side where you have the most

6x -7 =3x +5
6x -7 -3x = 3x + 5 -3x [subtracting 3x from both sides]

so,
3x - 7 = 5

now collect the numbers

3x -7 +7 = 5 + 7 [adding 7 to both sides]
3x = 12
x = 4
Now check in original if you have time

Can you do the ones with x terms on one side without guessing?

Eg 7x - 5 = 16

collect numbers

7x - 5 + 5 = 16 + 5 [ we need to add 5 to both sides to undo the '-5']

so 7x = 21

then x = 3

If you can I will try and explain another one
