2 pears and 3 oranges cost £1.06.
1 pear and 4 oranges cost 31.03.
How much more does a pear cost than an orange?

A.6p
B.5p
C.4p
D.3p
E. 2p

Assuming that's £1.03 ...

Double the second bit of information:
2 pears and 8 oranges costs £2.06

Look at the difference between the two bits of information:
So 5 oranges must cost £1
Therefore 1 orange costs 20p

so 4 oranges cost 80p and thus 1 pear must be 23p - answer is D.
