Some iGCSEs count as GCSEs and are approved - some are not.

State schools won't take iGCSEs on the not approved list as it will decrease their results.

Where do I obtain the list? I teach in a private school so probably do not have the same level of knowledge as you. Normally, I use the DfE list of qualifications at level 2 and the AQA Further maths is listed there. Where else can I look? Our problem is that many of our pupils go on to state grammars at 16 so it is essential that they take recognised qualifications.

This is what I found on the Edexcel website - sorry we are way off topic

http://www.edexcel.com/quals/igcse/edex ... fault.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Here it says the Further Maths does not yet count - state schools won't look at it until it does

Guest55- I stand corrected. Further questioning of my DD reveals that they were told at the begining of the academic year that they were going to do IGCSE in Further maths and this later changed to GCSE in Further maths and now it is being refered to as AQA level 2 cert. in Further Maths as referred to on the AQA website. She was a little baffled herself , but welcomes the extra qualification and knowing that it will help her with the Double Maths she intends to do next academic year.
It seems her school is not too concerned about these not counting as GCSEs?!

Most schools go for the FSMQ in Maths but it will be interesting to see whether this new qualification 'takes off' if it becomes a GCSE equivalent.

The other popular option is the pilot twin award which does count or GCSE Statistics which is useful for A level Maths and other subjects.

Could anyone recommend me another system, as my daughter is no longer able to do 7 day Kumon homework from Sept 2012?

She started kumon at age 5.5 and currently at level i (finishes in April 2012) and would like to switch to an alternative system which doesn't need every day effort from both parents and child.

Hi Suniil
You could try her on the Schofield & Sims and BOND books. You have to mark yourself , but it's a really good way to follow your DD's progress. Try and time them to help build up speed.
I used both for my DS.
How old is your DD?

Thank you Layla, will try out the recommendations.

She is 10 years old and planning to go to a specialist music school from this September.

Hi Suniil,
Just to clarify is she doing the 11+ this Sept onwards ?
If so, The Sch & S book 5 would be at the right level. I moved on to book 6 with my DS this year- he is post 11+ , but we quickly abandoned it as it got a bit boring. We have moved onto KS3 maths books- "hand-me-downs" from big sister.
With Bond books, try an age range one year ABOVE your DD's age.
Good luck and keep us posted on progress!!
