Distance speed time Maths problem

The question's not at all clear (as given) then, is it, because you've interpreted it as half the journey by distance (which leads to a not impossible, but awkward for the average 11 year, problem), and pretty much everyone else on this thread has interpreted it as half the journey by time!

I think the question is quite clear -

So is the answer 10 or 9.6?

There have been two answers presented for this question.

My DD looked at it and said 10km ,she said she just divide both by four since both journey took 1/4 of an hour,then add both answers .

Year 5.I already tried Google .I came across a question on the Habs paper I downloaded from here so I decided to give DD more practice since she took considerable time to complete it .
