How important is algebra in 11+?

Dd is really struggling with algebra. She's a bright girl, very strong in English, picks up Maths very quickly usually, but no matter how many times I explain each step to her, she doesn't get it.

We're looking at HBS, Habs and NLCS. Will it affect her chances of she can't do algebra or should I keep trying?

It isn't the end if she doesn't understand them as only a few questions on the paper will test this skill. She needs to compensate by performing very well across the other questions. You imply this will not be a problem so it should not matter so much. She may still get the hang of algebra; there are 6 months to go until the NLCS/ Habs entrance exams. Keep working on it but don't allow her to get stressed (or to see that you are)!
