Hi

Would appreciate if anyone could give a method for the following question.

Mr Smith is 6 feet tall. How many metres is this?

1 inch = 2.54cm, so 1.83m (6x12x2.54/100, rounded up to nearest cm).

If they don't actually tell you the degree of accuracy required in the answer the approximation of 1 foot = 30 cm (as most children will be familiar with, being the respective lengths on a ruler) would probably suffice. 6 x 30cm = 1.8m (which to one decimal place is the same as 1.83m anyway).
