Perimeter and area question

Re: Perimeter and area question
FPTP, Book1, Short Numerical reasoning,
1) Test 1 Q.15: Pentagonal prism, area and length given, volume asked.
2) Test 2 Q.3 : Triangular prism, edges given, volume asked.
3) Test 5 Q.5: Triangular prism, volume and face area given, length asked.
I didn't expect these questions either. I did not even expect sets at ks2 let alone finding mean of two sets as the Test 7 question 17 expects. I was wrong, as parent2013 confirmed that sets are definitely in.

Re: Perimeter and area question
Sorry, the sets question is more of a mean question and dd did work it out correct but she needed to be told what a set is. Haven't taught her about Union,Intersection and Infinite sets etc. A simple meaning 'collection' was enough to solve this question.
Probably I was in a panic mode.

Re: Perimeter and area question
Why would sets be in a state school 11 plus exam? Sorry, I am confused.

Re: Perimeter and area question
No sets heard of here, maybe the numbers are in sets, but the child dies not really need to know the importance/significance of that. Sets are year 8 curriculum at my sons gs and then only vaguely.
Re: Perimeter and area question
Check FPTP short Numerical reasoning, Book1, Test 7, question 17. It asks to find the mean of two sets.

Re: Perimeter and area question
I have come across simple Venn diagram questions but nothing complex so terminology is not important as long as they know how to interpret the data

Re: Perimeter and area question
I am not surprised as there is some Year 8 stuff that have been squeezed into test papers to make it appear harder. I prefer to judge the curriculum from past papers that exactly shows what came in the real exam.berks_mum wrote:Check FPTP short Numerical reasoning, Book1, Test 7, question 17.
