nine 1 digit numbers
(99-9) two digit numbers
(999-99)three digit numbers
The number 1000.

Okay, at the risk of bringing down upon myself the wrath of those who object to actual answers being given:

The 1 digit numbers: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 (9)
plus
(99-9 = 90) two digit numbers (90 ×2) (180)
plus
(999-99 = 900) three digit numbers (900×3) 2700
plus
the number 1000 (4)

So 9+180+2700+4 = 2893
