helloooo there blossoms!

So which answer is correct?

34 divide by 5 = 6 remainder 4 or do you add a zero on your remainder and divide that by 5 to get an answer of 6.8 ?

Used both in the past but don't know what is used at school nowadays, especially 11+ exams. Which one would they mark as correct ?

Cheers!

Depends which year group your child is in.

At first division is given with a remainder then later children learn 'short division' to deal with a remainder and express it as a fraction or decimal.

Yes, the expected answer at 11+ would be either 6.8 or 6 4/5, but not '6 reminder 4' - in my opinion.
