I think the way your DD writes out her working might be causing her confusion. ( it confused me anyway!). I'd suggest teaching her to write it out the way guest55 did.

I think the fact that the denominator was prime makes it seem harder .... can she do the others which involve both numerator and denominator?
Personally I would not tend to look at just primes when teaching simplifying fractions - we don't use the word 'cancel' ...
